A well designed, search engine friendly website can influence the way your site is indexed, and bring in targeted traffic. By optimizing your keyword phrases, maximizing link popularity and link relevancy you can increase the ranking of your site, and bring in more targeted traffic

Optimize your site by first making a list of keywords and keyword phrases that your targeted market will use to find you in their search. Use keywords that are relevant to your site. Try to match your keywords to the contents of the page you are optimizing. Focus on those keywords that bring in a fair amount of traffic, but not so much competition.

Use assigned keywords in the appropriate places; each page you optimize should lean towards a different set of keywords.

On your Title Tags use short, accurate descriptions to describe your pages. Every page should have its own unique title tag. Use a maximum of 65 characters.

Keyword Meta Tags tell the search engines where to index your site. Use a comma to separate keywords and phrases. Use each keyword about 5 times in different phrases. Use the appropriate keywords for that particular page.

Description Meta Tags need to be an accurate description of the page contents. Each page on your site needs its own description Meta tag. Use the same keywords that were applied elsewhere on this page. Use a total of 200-250 characters.

Webmasters may have noticed that the techniques they were using in search engine marketing for several years may not be applicable these years, anymore. The search engines have evolved and are continuously evolving and new trends are coming such that you have to be continuously updated to keep up with the trends.

If you are using the latest techniques in search engine marketing, then you are “in” with the latest trends. Some of these trends that are already outdated and have to be refined are the following:

  • It used to be that you could put a number of keywords in your title tags, Meta tags, article and blog contents, and other places in the site and you can get good rankings for these. Nowadays, the search engines can have you penalized if you do these things.
  • Link exchange or reciprocal links are not getting good treatments and doing this can be easily detected by the search engines. Mutual linking will not be good for your search engine marketing strategies.
  • Instead of reciprocal links you can focus on collecting as many inbound links as you can from quality and relevant sites. With this strategy you create extensive quantities of inbound links which can lead people to your site.
  • Blog comments with URL links to your site will still be of less value even with “no-follow” tags on these. Even if these links can be valuable to users it will have no value on search engine ranking objectives.
  • The search engines give more value to links coming from different hosting servers and links coming from the same IP address will have high tendencies of being considered spam. So avoid getting a large network of sites linking to you such as link buying.
  • The speed at which a site acquire links is also looked into. For example, if you are a new website and you suddenly get high rankings because of many links acquired speedily, this method can be considered as link buying and will not be given good credits.

Being updated on the latest trends is the better idea and also better for your search engine marketing techniques. To keep up with the new trends in the industry you have to be better educated on the latest direction that the industry is going to.

As any good webmaster knows, a site without traffic is useless. While it is relatively easy to create a website, getting traffic to a site is a bit more challenging. Submitting the site to various search engines is important; however, this is time consuming unless a person pays for an automated search engine submission service. However, one can take advantage of the ‘Google secret’ and get traffic via Google.

All these press releases on this site are indexed by Google.

One should also use Google Images. Google Images can benefit anyone who has photos on his or her website. All you have to do is submit the images to Google Image with relevant text. Be sure this text has the right keywords so that it will get good ratings and drive traffic to the site.

There are so many types of internet marketing that sometimes it can be difficult for a business to know where to start. Once you’ve found a company offering web design packages and you’ve got your website up and running, two of the most common forms of marketing which you may come across include SEO and PPC.

But which of the two should you focus on?

SEO

When people start looking for web design packages, SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is often the first form of internet marketing that businesses hear about, and there are a number of good reasons to focus on it.

The aim of SEO is to optimise your website so that it appears in the search engines when people make a search using a related keyword. The major benefits include:

It’s free (unless you hire a firm to carry out a campaign for you).
If you start getting to the top of the rankings for your main keywords it can drive huge amounts of highly targeted traffic to your website.
The results can be long lasting and carry on even when you stop your campaign.

Of course there are also downsides to SEO, and these include:

It is very competitive, especially for some keywords and industries.
SEO is changing all the time so there is a lot to learn if you want to do it yourself.
It can take quite a long time to start ranking even with the best techniques.

PPC

PPC (Pay Per Click) is a great way to advertise your company online once you’ve set up a website with a company providing web design packages. It consists of the adverts that appear at the top and down the side of the search results pages, as well as in relevant pages of content on the internet. The benefits of PPC include:

You only pay when someone clicks on your link and visits your website.
It is highly targeted because you are getting your website right in front of the people who are looking for your products and services.
